The callous killer showed no remorse as he smiled, cursed at and gave the middle finger to the shooting victims' families in court. Lane was 17 when he went on a murderous rampage inside Chardon High School that killed three students and injured three others in Feb. 2012. Lane did not attend that high school, but was in the area waiting for a bus to his school.
An Ohio teenager wearing a white t-shirt with the word "killer" scrawled across it in capital letters smiled, cursed and gestured obscenely as he was sentenced to life in prison without parole for killing three high school students and injuring three others in a shooting rampage a year ago.
At the sentencing of 18-year-old T.J. Lane on Tuesday, the shooting victims' families were given the opportunity to address the court as Lane smirked and unbuttoned his blue shirt to reveal a white t-shirt with the word "killer" written across it in capital letters -- similar to the one he wore on the day of the shooting.
He rocked back and forth in his chair as victims' relatives took the podium and called him "repulsive," wished him an "extremely slow, tortorous death," and said he should be locked away "like an animal
"This hand that pulled the trigger that killed your sons now masturbates to the memory. F--- all of you," Lane said before giving the victims' families the middle finger.
Gasps were heard in the court and some in the gallery began to cry.
"Frankly, I wasn't prepared for this," prosecutor James Flaiz said after Lane's vulgar gesture. "This is confirming what we have known all along, that this was a cold, calculated, premeditated killing."
"What we're dealing with is a disgusting human being," Flaiz continued. "He still refuses to offer any explanation for why he did this. The only explanation I can offer the court is he is an evil person."
Judge David Fuhry handed Lane three consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole, as Lane smiled and nodded.
