Why would Kishi make Gai open the 8th gate right now??

Lets think about it a little bit... Gai opened the 8th gate against Madara. What will happen next is pretty obvious: Madara will survive, Gai will die (or maybe be magicaly saved by Naruto or some other one).

If Kishi wanted to just SHOW us the 8th gate, it would be a LOT better if actually this sacrifice meant something, for example killing one of the akatsuki, or make something really relevant to the story... what we will see in a couple of hours is Madara being alive, and Gai in the ground.

Do you think that kishi really ****ed up making Gai opening the 8th gate at this moment???

Is it a desperate move from Kishi?? maybe the last chance to show this technique before the manga ends???

Gai opening the Eight gate does mean something by the way, it shows Gai's determination to protect his loved ones even at the cost of his life.

I think kishimoto could have done much better choosing the time and the significance of Gai opening the 8th gate... it just seems desperate to me...

Fruitless complaint.

It's a last resort option for a weakened side and it's the only power and method that can contest Madara at this moment until Naruto and Sasuke inevitably come back more powerful. Gai is the only one who can do it, as no one on the battlefield has the necessary requisites to combat Madara for an extended period of time (besides maybe Hashirama) to buy time.​

It's quite possibly the last villain, and there's no better proof of the strength of 8 gates than to show it against the most powerful villain. If he used it against Kisame for instance he wouldn't have been able to make a case for top 10 even if he slaughtered kisame with no difficulty and then died. Atleast if he gives Madara a hard time and lays a couple blows on him then he automatically becomes one of the strongest shinobi in the show.

And it would not have been an option to never show it. All the hype since lee vs gaara and then not show it? I'd be a bit upset.

If you ask me, the 8th Gate was always portrayed as a Last Resort Technique and now is also portrayed as the Technique to save loved ones.

When you combine the two, Save Loved Ones + Last Resort Situation = Perfect Timing For 8th Gates.

Not bad writing at all. I would hate if he loses too quickly or is one panelled or something, that would be bad writing.
