No, bro I'm not saying that the sage had to have EMS first because he's the progenitor of the Uchiha and Senju clans (meaning he had the rinnegan before splitting the two lines of Senju and Uchiha). The EMS is an Uchiha trait, which the Sage IS NOT. Rinnegan, as you know, is a trait of both bloodlines and the Sage is of both bloodlines, since he originated the bloodlines. Also, the rinne didn't appear when the sage became the jin of the juubi... That makes no sense and means that Madara would have to have had the juubi to awaken the rinne.

The sage got the rinnegan because he is the father of both Senju and Uchiha. He didn't have to go out and get Senju DNA like Madara did because he is the father of Senju and had Senju DNA before it became Senju DNA. So, it's logical to believe he naturally developed the rinnegan.
