Guy will die without weakening Madara

I think deep down we all know that 8 gates Gai isn't in the same league as Hashirama or Madara. Can Madara be stopped by taijutsu alone? Unlikely since he can regenerate entire limbs using SM chakra. Guy might buy time or reveal some weakness of Madara... but I suspect he ultimately will die for nothing.

the last sentence in your post is contradicting..
buying time or revealing a weakness = doing something,
and in their current situation being able to touch Madara in his current state is a great achievement..

Gai will exploit something in Madara. Gai has a slight "advantage" if you will… because Madara currently has only 1 eye combine that with Gai's current speed and he may be able to find a blind spot

False, he will die like a true herf course he will not seriously hurt Madara but Gai will buy enough time for the events that will bring Madara down to happen.That is hardly dying for nothing.

If it weren´t for Gai, Madara would fodderize everyone neg difference all at once as no one can even touch him, let alone hold him off.So in conclusion he will not die for nothing as he will pretty much save the future by sacrificing himself, giving the others time to act.After that Naruto and very likely Sasuke will be ready to fight again with powerups BUT it won´t be possible without Gai´s ultimate sacrifice.

how do you know he didnt kill any? also dai is weaker than guy y'know the whole eternal genin and how guy is y'know a jounin

Would you say that Juraiya's death was wasted since he did not kill the Six Paths of Pain and they were still able to destroy the village? He was able to send intel back that helped them to defeat him.

Gai's death won't be in vain if he weakens him and buys time for Naruto and Sasuke to recover. His fight might give Kakashi and others insight into how to beat Madara.
