Alternative rock and classic metal, i do like some dubstep tho. well it depends on what kind of mainstream music we're talking about... but i dont like most of it (pop,hip hop, nu metal,etc.)

Depends on mood, but lately it's punk and modern rock (underground kinda stuff; ie. FIDLAR, Mac Demarco, Wavves, the Strokes, Black Lips). Overall it ranges. Punk, classic rock, modern rock, some hip-hop and rap, some indie pop, and movie/video game soundtracks.

As for mainstream... Nahh.. It gets some good breakthrough songs, and some pop songs aren't bad. But I don't mess with that stuff.

Most modern metalcore is trash unless its BTBAM and Protest the Hero or of it's old school metalcore (metallic hardcore) like Integrity and Gaza.
Prog-metal is for psuedo-nerds and the epitome of boring.

I can dig some obscure or plain odd music such as NightWish or Voltaire, but I'll usually either listen to music from video games (Such as Skyrim, Assassins Creed, et cetera) or older metal. MegaDeath, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Dio. All that jazz.

Though I do listen to misc. songs from bands like A thousand foot krutch and what not.

Nightwish aren't obscure.

You've got pretty much the same taste as me. Thousand foot krutch are cool.

I mainly listen to heavy metal/metal/rock/hard rock/hip hop etc.

Bands like... led zeppelin, pink Floyd, pearl jam, slayers, FFDP, skillet, disturbed, Judas Priest, breaking Benjamin, queen, dio, black sabbath, alice in chains, deftones, pantera, guns N. roses, nightWish, mudvayne, within temptation and so on

And rappers like eyedea, N.w.a (group) MF doom, eminem, rakim, three six mafia and so on.

I also like metalcore >_>
