Which Naruto character has had the worst life/past

If i would have to choose i'd say Itachi or Gaara, Leaning more towards Itachi because he's still not acknowledged by everyone besides Naruto & Sasuke.

I know the history the base has had w/ previous Itachi fans. And the following wall of text is obviously probably going to be very biased and many people will not like it but...

Itachi. The kid was such a prodigy at a young age that his parents tried to use him as a tool to further the clan's power. People also envied him and Shisui in the clan. Members within the clan even wanted his best friend's eyes. He didn't really live a decent, normal life, everyone expected so much from him. He also loved his family very much, so it must have been very painful when he had to see what lengths they would attempt to go at, just to gain power in the village. He had to witness his best friend Shisui in pain, w/o one eye, beg him to fix all the Uchiha clan problems, and bid him a farewell before he passed away. He also was the youngest participant in the 3rd ninja world war, at the age of 4. That's in stark contrast to other characters, like Naruto and Sasuke who grew up in a time where the village was at peace and stayed at home playing w/ toys at that age. No toddler should ever have to see masses upon masses of slain comrades. Never. (Seriously, why would Mikoto and Fugaku allow their kid to go into a war zone and fight as a 4yr old? lol)
Also, being a pacifist, he was ordered to annihilate his clan, which did stop them from taking over Konoha and causing war, but still. That's still his family that he grew up w/ and loved. He had to drown his emotions and become a killing machine and leave the one he loved the most, his little brother, Sasuke and go knowing that the next time they would probably meet, would be their final battle. Even as an Edo Tensei zombie, Itachi still cannot forgive himself for what happened, even though he had no control because he only had 2 options (no other options, past negotiations were refused by the Uchiha) & he did choose the better of the 2, because the Uchiha were going to be done either way. It has also been hinted in the series that Itachi could have been the 1st Uchiha hokage, due to the respect he received from both Danzo and Hiruzen, and how he was the anbu captain at the age of 13, and that he is the one who told Naruto the requirement of becoming hokage. Itachi had a very bright future, but was forced to throw it all away and sacrifice his life to protect the village, due to caring for it so much. He saved the ninja world twice, and yet is one of the most hated criminals in the series to the general public and never received any recognition for what he did. In fact, he is so humble that he never expected anything in return and does not want the village to know. He could have become hokage, had a bright future, a family, etc, but decided to sacrifice his life to protect his clan's honor, the village, and Sasuke (he made it seem like his clan were the victims and he was the evil psycho, when in reality he was the hero and his clan was power-hungry/ not so noble) as well as join a terrorist group at the age of 14 to spy on them and foil a few of their plans involving Konoha. Keep in mind that the Akatsuki members (who are pretty much scumbags and quite a few of them killed for fun) were pretty much the only human contact Itachi had ever since leaving Konoha. That genuinely sucks.
When Itachi and Kisame went for Naruto in pt1, Kisame was actually tagging along and Itachi was the one assigned to capture Naruto. He made up excuses and stopped Naruto from getting captured w/o Kisame suspecting anything. (Itachi only showed up to make his prescence known after Hiruzen died, so that Danzo would be afraid of hurting Sasuke and uphold his part of the bargain.) Some excuses include "Let's leave, Jiraiya's too strong, it won't matter how much backup we get, we'll still lose to him (proven wrong when Itachi casually broke out of Jiraiya's ultimate summons w/ only amaterasu and Jiraiya had no idea of what it was & when Kisame was asking why they were retreating and saying that Itachi could take on Jiraiya by himself...Itachi's claim also did not make sense, because backup Akatsuki members probably would make a difference in the battle, even though Itachi could in reality beat Jiraiya mid-diff by himself)" and when Kisame was about to chop off Naruto's leg, Itachi diverted attention by acknowledging Sasuke's prescence, "It's been a long time...Sasuke". When Kisame and Itachi encountered Kakashi, Kurenai, and Asuma, they were the attacked by them and that's pretty ridiculous. Itachi was a pacifist and loved Konoha, and yet had to deal w/ his own comrades attacking him and insulting him saying "You're not one to talk...you're despicable....heartless, etc". The reason why I brought up Itachi's pt1 appearance is because it shows just how sucky his life was. He had to play the bad guy and live w/ a bunch of scumbags, which was the opposite of who he really was.
Later on, he developed a terminal illness, went blind, and allowed his brother kill him, knowing that the one he held most dear to him (Sasuke) hated him w/ every fiber of their being.


Itachi's life contrasts w/ everyone's in the series because...
All in all, everyone's life in the series got better, except for Itachi's. Him dying was sadly literally the best thing that happened to him, because then it meant that he could finally rest in peace. The only time he felt better was when he saved the shinobi world a second time by defeating Kabuto and stopping 90% of the war, and getting closure w/ Sasuke...but come on, he was already dead and a zombie at that point.

Examples of lives getting better:

Naruto: hated by village to....accepted by Iruka, Sakura, Sasuke, and Kakashi, makes friends, saves village & gets recognition, most popular/loved by village now, has an entire alliance of ninja supporting him, #1 hokage candidate, even made friends w/ Kurama, praised by Edo hokages, killer TNJ, etc.

Sasuke: loses clan in 1 night...gets immensely stronger, was loved by everyone in village as a child and 13 year old, gets support from Naruto, has/had a team he can open up to if he wants to (Team Taka), had great memories w/ Team 7, now is supported by the ninja alliance due to helping Naruto, praised by Minato, there's no chance he's going to die due to being a missing-nin or go to jail due to having the perk of being Naruto's friend, now in the running to be next hokage, people looked up to him when they were younger and wanted to be like him, etc. (People are starting to trust him alot now, well maybe not trust...but forgive him due to helping so much in the war.)

Madara: loses 4 brothers...has a friend like Hashirama, starts a village w/ Hashirama, ends Senju-Uchiha fighting, Hashirama looks at him like a brother, gets stronger and aquires MS, EMS, and later Rinnegan, is Uchiha clan leader, etc. (Yeah, I know that his life took a downward spiral, but that was slightly his own fault, he left Konoha just because he didn't trust Tobirama, it's not like he was kicked out or anything. Hashi gave him tons of times for peace, but he refused.)

Gaara: He had the worst childhood. His own father had a demon sealed into him and tried to kill him because of that. WTF? And his own siblings were afraid of him, the village hated him, he had no friends, he was told his mother never loved him, and he had Shukaku threatening him telling him to stay awake at all times because if he ever went to sleep then he would kill him and destroy the Sand village. Gaara hands down had the worst childhood. Only reason I actually didn't say he had a worse life then Itachi is because Gaara now has a bright future and is Kazekage. I like seeing his growth throughout the series and he is a well-written, interesting character.

Itachi- I cannot imagine the pain he went through slaughtering his brethren and awaiting his fate to be determined by Sasuke, the brother he loved who he turned into a rouge ninja.
Gaara- Literally loved by no one, only ones who loved him died (his mom and that uncle?).
Nagato- Witnessed his parents and best friends death yet still died with a smile on his face. Boss. (same with Itachi)

he didnt save anything. its closer than ever to being completely wiped out. he didnt defeat kabuto, kabuto broke izanami.
he didnt stop 90% of the war, he made the war ten thousand times worse by unleashing madara from kabutos control and making sure no one remained who could control or supress madara.
itachi also unleashed sauske on konoha by refusing to stop him which resulted in the near death of everyone in konoha.
