Juubi jin has prophetic powers

I believe that what we are seeing here is madara showing slight prophetic powers.
It could explain why he already knew gai and also knew about the red steam (in the real translation he said he (madara) would be under-estimatin gai if he expected the red gate)
I could be wrong but i choose to believe this as its cool and it is actually possible ^.^

But then, how does Madara know that "Red Steam" emerges when one activates the Eighth Gate? It means there must be a former 8th gate user or as the OP mentioned, he gained prophetic powers.

Gai could not of been the first to know about the eight gates. Madara has had his Zetsus in the ground for a long time. The intel they gathered could have potentially included information about the eight gates. It is likely that he aquired knoweledge on the subject at some point during his life. It's even possible that he himself is capable of opening gates.

I really don't believe that he has prophetic powers. For instance, when he planned on attacking both Obito and Kakashi at the same time. He didn't expect them to use kamui simultaneously. If he had prophetic powers then he would have known what would happen.

The Eight Inner Gates is a forbidden jutsu of Konoha. It was probably ranked that because of the amount of damage it gives the user after they end it. If its a forbidden jutsu, then that means that someone had to have used it in the past. Madara probably fought someone using all the Eighth Gate of Death right before Konoha was formed , right after it was or sometime after he left the village and prior to his fight with Hashirama.

That may mean several things, Madara may think that Guy is Lee from before when he was kicked in half, or he may just have seen Guy on the battlefield prior and took notice in his power level.

well he did already fight him, so it was more of him just remembering. i think you are reading way to into his comment. but on the other hand the sage of the six paths did prophesize things, so that may be a juubi jin ability but not what madara was doing at that time.
