May be he managed to break Izanagi b4 Madara reviving himself and learned that info from EDO Madara via EDO tensei link? He may not be able to control him but he can hear the voice of his EDO's.Ya I know that Madara managed to break the link but nothing suggests that he can't hear him via EDO link and ofcourse nothing suggests that he can hear him but it is the only logical explanation I can comeup with.
