Bear in mind I hate nothing about the amazing character that is Gai, I genuinely can't find anything to dislike about his character, he's dumb when he needs to be, and serious when he has to. Chances are whenever you find Gai at the centre of a story he's either kicking ass or being the comic relief that actually is funny. I love his rivalry with Kakashi, as well as his fights with Kisame being among my favourite in the manga. I love the fact that even now he's always the man to save Kakashi. I love his commitment to hard work and training, that's all done by the sweat off his own back, and not a hand out like our protagonists.
But I still want him to die.
I just feel that in order for this plot to really pick up, he has to, as obvious as it seems. Madara is really underwhelming as a villain right now, he may have "killed" Naruto and Sasuke, as well as put down the Hokage except Hiruzen, but that all really means nothing considering they're all bound to get back up. Even the five Kage survived when they should've died.
If Gai dies it'll affect Lee and Kakashi severely, as well as the whole alliance. Somebody has to die, as depressing as it sounds.
