In terms of his actual character?

Can't speak for others but I find him to be one of the better written characters in the manga. He does have mess-ups because quite frankly Kishi just isn't a good writer but his character isn't bad like so many others in this manga.

I find the idea that he's "badly written" because he "flip flops" laughable. People call it unrealistic and it's actually the opposite of that. Research a bit, it's actually very realistic for someone that went through what he did to behave like he did, to be easily swayed. "He should of just followed Itachi's will" - It's more complex then that, Sasuke is his own character, not Itachi's lapdog. It's easy for Itachi, Naruto and even us the reader to judge him and say giving up on revenge is so easy, that's it the right decision. Now look at Sasuke's point of view. It's different, it's not easy. You train your whole life to kill your older brother, everything you believed was based on a lie, it's not so simple for him to just "follow Itachi's will"

I don't want to go on and on but lets just say I find him one of the more interesting characters because he's in the grey area. Throughout the series there's always been so much speculation on his motivations, what will he do, how will he do it? He makes bad decisions, some are morally wrong, some are not, some are ambiguous. He's not a 'bad guy' but he certainly isn't a good guy either and I find that interesting. I think he would make the far more interesting Hokage then just a generic guy in the white-area.

Power wise, obviously he's strong.

Sasuke is a magnificently crafted character, very human and real. When one sees Sasuke and tries to put oneself in his shoes, one would realize that whatever he did, are all human-like responses; something most, if not all people given the power and opportunity, would end up doing. I love the fact that anyone's opinions do not matter to him. This is a sign of an extremely mature character, further strengthened by his resolve and his own created principles to look beyond the banners of Nations. People forget, that Konoha has committed nothing but atrocities as well, and Sasuke is a saviour in his own right, as he saved individuals wronged by Orochimaru and had he destroyed Konoha, he would have avenged those wronged or vilified by this political establishment.

Konoha isn't a bastion of innocence and good will, as proven through the actions of Danzo and others. He was given political immunity for everything. The logic that everything he did was to protect the village, isn't sound and is one-sided, and doesn't absolve Konoha of its own political crimes. Sasuke would have thus, proven himself to be a saviour in this light.

Also, As we are talking about how good a character is and it's his verisimilitude that determines it so, then latest research expounds upon this factor that how people, who are stringent adherents of Religion, Patriotism, and such factors are not intellectually superior individuals, but in fact, it's the exact opposite. Being a character that opposed such confines from the beginning for his own views and perspectives on Life gives him a sense of Philosophical grandeur - he looks beyond boundaries and anyone who does so, is an intelligent and a thoughtful individual.

This puts him apart from Itachi - someone whose whole life is governed by principles that are not his. Sasuke is not ethically or morally obliged to follow Itachi's will. To judge him on this merit is highly immature and pointless. Sasuke is his own person, he walks down the road he chooses for himself - herein likes the possibilities of expansion of personality through astute perception. Something Itachi seldom discovered being a perpetual serf for Konoha and its ruthless political lobby.
