I found fairy tail amazing for the first 50 episodes, I thought it had real good potential to become a strong well liked anime, oh how I was wrong...

Mangka obviously ran out toilet paper and instead of buying more he used his manga instead to wipe his ass and took a liking to it.

btw

there are some strong well developed female characters I can easily name a few:

Revy - Black Lagoon

Balalaika - Black Lagoon

Stand Alone Complex - Major Motoko Kusanagi

I just finished Another a few minutes ago. Definitely surpassed When They Cry in the horror genre, but I'm probably gonna have to watch it again, cause I have no freakin' clue how it ended the way it did. lol

  • Motoko Kusanagi (Ghost in the Shell)
  • Makise Kurisu (Steins;Gate)
  • Faye Valentine (Cowboy Bebop)
  • Haruhi Suzumiya (The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya)
  • Kanade "Angel" Tachibana (Angel Beats!)
  • Celty Sturluson (Durarara!!)
  • Riza Hawkeye (Fullmetal Alchemist)
  • Shana (Shakugan no Shana)
  • Re-l Mayer (Ergo Proxy)
  • Nagisa Furukawa (Clannad)
  • Kyou Fujibayashi (Clannad)
  • Tomoyo Sakagami (Clannad)
  • Taiga Aisawa (Toradora!)

Since I was about... 8 I believe, I've been watching anime. But, it's basically been the same anime: Naruto, DragonBall Z, One Piece, Bleach.

So, now here I am, 15 lol, and I decided to at least check out a least a couple more animes because it felt like it was getting out of style for my age. That's when my friend suggested Fairy Tail.

Right now, I am on episode 50 and I started to noticed A LOT of things that happen across the anime universe, Fairy Tail is unbelievably amazing though :bouncy:

Anyways, I started comparing characters. I saw that typically the main character was the hot headed goof ball that always got into trouble with others, but was always the here hero in the end (Goku, Naruto, Ichigo, and Luffy) while their nemesis was always the cool and collected one (Grey, Vegeta, Sasuke... and the other person).

But, I noticed the girls so here is my comparison between the ones I know the most.

SAKURA HARUNO

You must be registered for see images
Ever since part one, she seems to have been the MOST hated character in the rack. Despite her power ups, it seems like she'll never be liked. I honestly enjoyed her character because she her qualities kinda helped nudge the story along like the continuous hunt for Sasuke until the middle of Shippuden, I believe.

LUCY HEARTFILLIA

You must be registered for see images
I just started watching Fairy Tail about a week ago so I don't really know if her character has progressed anymore after finding out Loki was a spirit. Anyways, as the episodes got higher higher I started seeing more hate comments about her when she really isn't a bad character. I find her similar to Sakura since she somewhat shares probably most of her qualities as well.

This made me conclude that animes can't really have female characters that are likeable unless they have some sort of monstrous quality that was shown from the beginning or that was shown to come from the beginning. Or.. has some OTHER quality.

ERZA SCARLET

You must be registered for see images
I don't really see a lot of hate comments about her and I like her too. She's a complete monster. She has fought some many times that she is considered one of the top 3 in Fairy Tail (Top Two now that Laxus is gone). Same for Lucy, I don't know if she has upgraded or anything, but she have over 100 armor?

HINATA HYUUGA

You must be registered for see images
- Hyuuga clan, her power was bound to blossom.
- Big Jugs.
Don't really no much about her besides that she is definitely powerful... Kishi played her part one and is trolling her part two...

Overall, I feel like anime/manga needs a change in females within the anime universe. A lot of the females in shows have so much potential, but it's like they are used just to cry and give lectures. If there are more comparisons out there, I'd like to here them cause I find it interesting to find more so If you feel like it, then go ahead c:

It partially depends upon what you are reading/watching. The animes you mentioned are for shonnen genre- their target audience are guys not girls. So the female character are there but not important enough to hog the screen time.

In fact many producers do not even want the girls to watch the shows and will curtail role of female characters to avoid that or cancel the show itself:

During a discussion about the Cartoon Network series "Beware the Batman," Dini explained why Cartoon Network and other networks that air superhero cartoons aren't trying to grab a female audience in addition to their male one.
"They're all for boys -- 'We do not want the girls.' I mean, I've heard executives say this, you know, not [at Disney XD] but at other places, saying like, 'We do not want girls watching this show,'" he tells an incredulous Smith. "They. Do. Not. Buy. Toys. The girls buy different toys."
As io9 points out, action figures and role-playing toys accounted for $1.39 billion in the Toy Industry Association's published sales data in 2012, while the sale of dolls accounted for $2.69 billion. While Smith laments in the interview that executives are being lazy by acting like they can't market to girls just because girls don't buy action figures, Dini claims that catering to a female audience is a big part of why his live-action Cartoon Network show "Tower Prep" was axed.
"The thing that got us canceled on 'Tower Prep,' honest-to-God, was, like, 'We need boys, but we need girls right there, right one step behind the boys' -- this is the network talking -- 'one step behind the boys, not as smart as the boys, not as interesting as the boys, but right there,'" Dini says, via Vi at Tumblr agelfeygelach. "And then we began writing stories that got into the two girls' back stories, and they were really interesting, and suddenly we had families and girls watching, and girls really became a big part of our audience, in sort of like they picked up that 'Harry Potter'-type of serialized way. ... But, the Cartoon Network was saying, 'F***, no, we want the boys' action, it's boys' action, this goofy boy humor we've gotta get that in there.'"
Even though the numbers were there, Dini claims Cartoon Network's mentality was, "Yeah, but the we've got too many girls. We need more boys. And then that's why they canceled us, and they put on a show called 'Level Up,' which is, you know, goofy nerds fighting CG monsters," Dini says. "It's like, 'We don't want the girls because the girls won't buy toys.' We had a whole merchandise line for 'Tower Prep' that they s***canned before it ever got off the launching pad, because it's like, 'Boys, boys, boys. Boys buy the little spinny tops, they buy the action figures. Girls buy princesses, we're not selling princesses.'"
Dini says that this is something that he's witnessed as a trend across all big companies looking to be a part of this cartoon-meets-toys market.
"The bigger the corporation, the more that feeling is pervasive. Like, pirates are boys, princesses are girls. With a smaller company, I think that you can kind of sell to everybody, but the bigger the company, they have their flow charts and focus groups and, you know, 'girls will only buy X amount of this and that and everything else,'" he says.
He adds that he wishes the mentality was just "a popular show is a popular show." "Maybe 'Buffy' couldn't have had an action figure line that would appeal to boys as well as girls, but it was a killer show," he laments.
Do Dini's revelations about the way that networks try to market cartoon superhero shows surprise you?

Your favourite show may get cancelled because you weren't part of the intended audience. Sounds funny but it just happens if you are a girl. You can say sexism but they believe they are just business. Some of the arguments are quite subjective and you can debate their merit but it won't change any time soon.
