Where was Danzo during the nine tails invasion?

So where was Danzo during the nine tails invasion of Konoha? And why didn't he help Hiruzen and the Anbu protect the village?

Where was Tsunade? Where was Jiraiya? Where were the Hyugas? Where were the Uchihas?

A lot of people were absent during the Nine-tails attack, so not really all suspicion can be put on Danzo for not being present.

Either away, not physically capable, didn't want to reveal his jutsu, possibly commanding root from the rear, or simply hoped it would provide an opportunity for him to take over which it almost did.
Really it is harder to figure out why Danzo would have helped.

I don't think Danzo would have ever wanted Hiruzen dead no matter what the circumstances. He was too dear a friend
