If you’re Christian and like going to services but have always been bummed out by the whole clothing-mandatory element of most churches, then you need to learn about this place in Ivor, Virginia.

So why pray naked? Pastor Allen Parker told WWBT it’s, “about baring his soul to Christ and leading his flock down that path of righteousness, no matter what they’re wearing.” He also told the station, “There's not a feeling that you have to be better than one another, physically. We're humans, we have scars, we have what we have…it's learning to love and accept that."

It seems like there is a devoted group of people who regularly attend, not minding the chilly winter weather. Katie and Robert Church are two of those regulars. Katie emphasized that the church has a strong sense of community. Robert pointed out that by stripping down, people become equal, “There are people that have great means, great wealth, there’s people that don’t. But, you wouldn’t know, and everybody treats everybody, you know, equally. You could really say the naked Churches enjoy this naked church.

Well... that's one way to get your church into the newspaper and distinguish yourself from the other churches.

I don't think it really has the desired effect, though. The idea is that we lay ourselves 'bare' before each other - without the ability to conceal our actions, our thoughts, etc. But that sort of 'nudity of the soul' is just impossible to have in this existence. The ability to see through the physical and into the very soul of others (and knowing everyone can do the same to you) is a truly uncomfortable proposal. Most who understand the implications of that form of 'judgment' (where everyone can see 'you' with no physical layers and formalities to hide behind) know how uncomfortable it is, and the only way anyone can survive that judgment. Those who don't aren't likely to get a better understanding by appearing in the nude on Sunday.

Only a matter of time before the State shows up to make things interesting. Missouri passed a law on strip clubs (so... we can't have nude strip clubs) citing sanitation concerns. I can only imagine that the State or local ordinances where these guys are have some kind of relevance to this.

Then we'll hear about them again in a "Separation of Church and State" court battle.
