Mindless P1 Edo were doing just fine. It was just that they weren't revived with full power. Current Edo are much more powerful, and erasing minds works in the same way. Orochimaru changing 4 Hokage into killing machnies that obey his orders is more than enough to make him top3, right after Juubito and current Madara.
