Done a lot of thinking on this, ahead is simply my interpretation of what Sasuke means by "[deleting] the past"
The two above images are expressing Sasuke's need to be the one to defeat/kill Naruto. Now, I don't believe that this is in any way indicative of Sasuke rooting out the Leaf village as a whole, destroying everything that it is and deleting the *past*, and in that way starting anew, as many have postulated.
These two pages express the sentimental value the picture itself holds to Sasuke, and he subsequently lays the picture on it's face as a means of leaving it behind. More recently, through the first two scans above, we see that the value of the picture is not gone for Sasuke, but now he's cutting Naruto out of it. Why is that?
For similar reasons that Madara left the village, not the same reasons, mind you, but similar. He knows why the Uchiha were treated secondarily to the Senju, and he knows why the village itself cannot follow an Uchiha, because after their defeat at the hands of the Senju, and the eventual peace treaty they signed with the Senju, they were treated and viewed as dogs of the Senju. Which also explains Sasuke's apprehension with Hashirama.
So, my belief is that Sasuke himself wishes to usurp power from the Senju, and take back his clan's honor by defeating Naruto, whom the fire of the Senju clan burns deep within.
In that way, he will delete the past, and start anew by dissenting opinions within Konoha and achieving what Madara failed to accomplish.
Now, why the value of the picture is important, it is because it reflects how valuable Team 7 is to him, even after he rejected it, which is why killing Naruto isn't out of anger or hatred toward Naruto himself, but rather sacrificing something he holds dear and enduring to achieve his goal.
