Obito was so irrelevant in p1. Tobi's identity would have been even more obvious had obito been intro'd that early on in the plot.

We just got an Obito mini arc mixed in with the flashbacks. This makes sense, because it keeps the development going. Itachi and others get mixed into it. I'd love on in on Itachi, but Sasuke's flashback was basically an Itachi arc.
