People say that Minato has constantly failed and that he was weak or not interesting. While it is your own opinion on whether or not he's interesting, he is the opposite of a failure. Look at his feats.
1. He saved the whole alliance twice.
2. He was the one who made it possible for the rest of the alliance (besides Naruto and Sasuke) to pull the bijuus out of Obito (which means that Minato was very significant in that chakara tug of war).
3. He saved Naruto and Sasuke multiple times during the fight with 10 tails Obito and he played a crucial role in that fight.
4. Tobirama was able to use Minato's link with Naruto to warp people away from the shinju.
5. Minato defeated whole platoons during the third shinobi world war.
6. He defeated Obito during his attack on Konoha, protected the village and sealed Kurama inside of Naruto (an action that has actually helped Naruto and many other people many times during this series).
He was definitely not a failure.
Now some of the people who bash him call him a failure because he couldn't protect his students.
My response: He wasn't there. He had his own missions. Plus, it was in fact war. Kakashi hasn't always been around Naruto and Sakura for every second during this war. What makes you think that Minato should have been any different?
Besides, it is not his fault that Rin decided to kill herself or that Kakashi got hurt at Kannabi bridge. If anyone is to blame, it would be the students themselves. They should have learned to defend themselves better (especially Rin). Obito and Rin were chuunin and Kakashi was a jonin for goodness sake. The rank of chuunin alone is said to be good enough to lead a team.
In addition, Rin did not have to kill herself. She could have at least tried asking Isobu for help. Had she gone into bijuu mode, she could have beaten those mist ninjas and the problems of this series would not have happened. She did not even try however. It is her own fault.
As for not being able to save Kushina, he could not do anything about that anyway. Kushina would have died from extraction. Therefore it is not Minato's fault.
Conclusion: Minato is at fault for none of this stuff and he has done very important things during both the third and the fourth war.
