My interpretation of what defeating someone at specific difficulty means

I mean, we often hear someone defeats someone else "X difficulty", but it's not really precise. It leaves room for interpretation. How do you understand that?

I, for one, see it this way:
High difficulty - when you defeat someone but are so exhausted/injured that you could not fight much longer if, for example, someone else attacked you; it's also "high difficulty" if there was a high risk of you losing at any point, even if you don't end up with any side-effects
Mid difficulty - the fight either takes a long time or you get wounded or otherwise handicapped during it (not badly, though); you would still manage to fight afterwards if need be
Easy difficulty - the fight is neither long nor dangerous; you end up without actually getting tired
No difficulty - you manage to defeat an opponent in a single move with no side-effects on your part

How do you like such criteria?
Here are some of the fight outcomes according to it:
Kakashi vs Zabuza in the forest: Kakashi wins high difficulty
Lee vs Sasuke: Lee wins easy difficulty
Lee vs Gaara: Gaara wins high difficulty
Kakashi vs Itachi: Itachi wins mid difficulty
Guy vs Kisame (last battle): Guy wins mid difficulty
Obito vs Konan: Obito wins mid difficulty

Does it sound about right?

dont agree with kakashi vs itachi....itachi didnt even break a sweat against 3 jonin...only after he used tsukuyomi(which i still think he only used it to fear them of...)itachi vs kakashi was easy diff

First of all, when Kakashi arrived Itachi stopped fighting Kurenai (she was the only one he took head on, he never fought Asuma) and focused solely on Kakashi. So he didn't take on 3 jonin, but Kakashi alone.

Second of all, I highly doubt he would use Tsukyomi in such a foolish way (just to show-off with a health-deteriorating technique? That's so unlike a ninja), judging by how Kakashi kept up with him until he did it it's pretty evident that he decided it would either take too long to defeat Kakashi without MS or that he wouldn't be able to defeat him at all.

Third of all, the use of Tsukyomi left Itachi panting. That's also the reason he
1) ordered Kisame to attack Kakashi instead of doing it himself
2) decided to retreat (confirmed by Kakashi later, which made Itachi praise his analytical skills)

So the fight perfectly fits the "mid difficulty" criterium, that is: Itachi won and would be able to continue fighting, but he got temporarily handicapped in that fight. He definitely didn't manage to win without getting tired, so easy difficulty is not an option (according to my rules, at least :p)

nice explanation. you're right about him not fighting against asuma. but my interpretation of that fight was the following. kakashi was nowhere near beating or even keeping up with him, he only managed to deflect one attack (with luck, cause he made that suiton-shield in order to defend against the shurikens, while itachi already had started an suiton attack) and got caugh by his explosing kage bunshin(while saving kurenai). as far as it seemed, he could have taken down kakashi anytime he wanted by either using amaterasu or even with tsukuyomi(even without those techs he was far faster then kakashi) but itachi never was a bad guy, was he? so what would be a good way to defeat and almost kill some1 without your partner noticing, that you dont really wanna kill him? yea with a deadly technique which you can dose just to that extent where you dont kill that guy. and thats the tsukuyomi.
also with that he gave kakashi knowledge over this technique so he could counter it in the future...

Obito vs Konan: Obito wins mid difficulty

Does it sound about right?

u are right about the subject but not about the matchups...

part 1 kakashi would win mid diff vs zabuza...that fight looked high diff for kakashi because he had to worry about naruto/sasuke/and sakura from getting there ass whooped and haku kept helping zabuza...had it been 1 v 1 kakashi would have won mid diff

war arc kakashi win low diff against zabuza...i didnt knw which kakashi u were referring to so...

itachi vs kakashi...are u talking current kakashi because yeah i agree itachi wins mid diff but if u are referring to any of there fights then no itachi wins easy diff...even now im not fully sure if kakashi can push itachi to mid diff because kakashi's arsenal hasnt changed that much except with the edition of kamui and he has to charge it up and aim at his target while sitting still who's to say itachi isnt going to totsuka him while he's sitting still trying to aim kamui or itachi can amaterasu him pretty easy, kakashi lacks chakra due to using the sharingan and not being a uchiha, and itachi lacks stamina due to his illness so the battle is of skill and itachi wins easy to mid diff

guy vs kisame...is interesting battle because guy was basically designed to be kisame's weakness, kisame makes his money off whooping shinobi who use large amounts of chakra which he uses to his advantage but i wont say mid i will say guy won high diff and because guy had it at his advantage because kisame was trying to get away and not fight and kisame was already weakened by kcm naruto and also guy's hirudora was perfect against super shark bomb jutsu which would overpowered any ninjutsu by absorbing the other ninjutsu chakra and empowering his but guy's tech was a taijutsu thrust type punch and hirudora was just all the force the punch made...any fight between them two is high diff

konan vs obit...wasnt mid diff it was high diff because obito was near death and was exhausted, he could still fight but only because of izanagi, konan thought she won and turned her back and obito stabbed her...not she is not on par with obito but that fight much like guy vs kisame which favored guy, also favored her vs obito because she planned

Obito was high difficulty, as was Gai.

An example of no difficulty is Lee vs Naruto.

You've made some points, but I'm pretty sure Kakashi was, in fact, keeping up. It's true that he only barely managed to fend off the suiton attack, but then again, he also managed to create a water clone without Itachi noticing. They were pretty much fighting on even terms (even Kisame noted this), with Itachi being on the offensive, that is, having a slight edge. This edge, however, was not large enough to make Itachi able to defeat Kakashi whenever he wanted. As I said, it's possible Itachi would have won without using MS, but that would certainly take a long time - and in this case it would still be considered a mid difficulty win.

Also, I'm still not convinced about Tsukyomi - IF Itachi really wanted to use it on Kakashi for some reason (which already seems unprobable enough), he could have done so from the beginning. The fact that he only used it after it was shown Kakashi is able to keep up with him, coupled with the obvious problems of MS causing health deterioration, heavily implies he had, in fact, no other way to quickly finish the fight other than use MS.

I wouldn't call Obito case a high difficulty - it's true he had to sacrifice his eye, but there was never really a risk of him losing.
Still, I understand how this is debatable.

As for Guy, the side-effects only occured later. Right after he defeated Kisame he would be able to take on someone else, that's why I assigned mid difficulty to this fight, though again, I see how this is debatable. Guess these unofficial definitions would need to be made more precise. :p

well i guess we'll never have the answer to that matter^^ but i like your argumentation and it does kinda make sense. but knowing itachi and the way he is(=never getting into trouble no matter who his oponent is, also knowing hes a good guy) still gives me the feeling that it was the way i described it^^ never the less in the end he did use tsukuyomi and got exhausted which could be categorizied as "mid diff"(according to your interpretation of that term^^)

Well, an agreement to disagree is often one of the best results of debates possible. :D

I don't agree with the Konan vs Obito / Kakashi vs Itachi..

Itachi baby shaked Kakashi.
Konan very nearly killed Obito, if he hadn't had the second sharingan he'd have died, and his arm was lost.

I've replied to both of these objections above.

Sounds good.

I would point out is if Soandso fights and doesn't use XYZ because of ...whatever, soandso chose/or had to fight that way. No going back and changing the outcome because he "could have" done XYZ.

Then what would fighting a difficult opponent but not getting injured be categorized as?
