However, nagato was being completely controlled by a guy who had to control several other things at the same time and couldn't see what was going on behind the smoke. These guys literally saw death coming.

The difference is that madara didn't actually damage naruto himself, instead him falling unconscious was an secondary effect of ripping he bijuu out. Even madara complained that it took him longer then expected to suck up the bijuu.

Sasuke on the other hand was handed bijuu level chakra, a Jutsu that binds madara and the perfect opportunity to execute his sneak attack since tobirama provided a distraction. But what did he do drop his sword so that madara could casually walk over and stab him zero diff.

But at the end of the day all of that means nothing because neither will actually die....

The current villains honestly outclass itachi by a considerable margin. People like Juubito, madara are all definite losses. People like spiral zetsu are arguable but i don't even see how itachi's beating him right now.

Naruto was in his most powerful form with the backup of 8 tailed beasts and a kage. Sasuke was on his own in base. If we use your view, naruto's defeat looks far worse.
In fact, Sasuke never knew about rinnegan techs, so what madara did to him was completely knew to him. Naruto lost to a gedo tech and rinnegan tech he's seen twice or more before - seen obito use gedo chains so many times, and seen Nagato use Deva's repulsion so many times. so...

All it's doing to try to insult sasuke is make naruto's defeat look 10 fold worse to be honest.
