It's not as if the manga ever made a sense since the start of this war, so another inconsistency happening is not a big deal. Remember when Naruto had a hard time training to learn a futon technique despite having the futon as an affinity? Remember when it was said to be hard to master a ninjutsu when you doesn't possess the affinity required? Well that shit went out of the window when we saw the entire alliance capable to use doton walls just by knowing the handseals, with no training at all

So at this point it's not surprising that Hiruzen could pull off such a Rinnengan lvl feat especially when he was noted to learn and being able to use every Konoha ninjutsu. Brace yourself and next you'll even see him using Amaterasu, FTG, Kamui, Kage Mane, Byakugan and so on

Inconsistency?
I made a thread showing the databook scan where Kishi outright says, that mastering all elemente would take many many years... It's obviously a feat that for a normal shinobi impossible in one life time..
Shit, Orochimaru who wanted to do something similar decided it was smarter to invent an imortality jutsu first..
Hiruzen just isn't a normal person, he's a mega genius for the feat..
