All Shinigami are not women.

Recently (relatively, at least; about 5 months ago) Sir Derp came up with the below theory:

RDS= Kaguya

Unbeknownst to many, the Shinigami of the Reaper Death Seal is a woman:

The Reaper is a Hannya Demoness who are all females and solely females.

The Shinigami is also a priestess holding a prayer beads and reciting a prayer before commencing the sealing ritual:

The Reaper's initial stance with it arms spread is a clerical/priestly stance:

Like Rikūdou/Hagoromo's stance:

It was established and well known by now that the Shiki Fūjin required Rikūdo/Hagoromo's Tablet as the catalyst for the Shinigami Mask to unseal the Reaper:

You must be registered for see images

It is because the Shiki Fūjin is Rikūdo/Hagoromo's Jutsu

and the Reaper is most probably Kaguya Ōtsutsuki, Rikūdo/Hagoromo's mother:

As to why Kaguya became the Shinigami of the Shiki Fūjin, Kishimoto has not yet explained or revealed why, either as an end effect of eating the Shinju's fruit or as a mother's sacrifice to aid her son in fighting the Jūbi.

I'd just like to point out that not all shinigami are women. "Shinigami" is a term referring to a "death god". There are multiple shinigami, and unlike Sir Derp suggests, not all are women. There are shinigami scatereed throughout multiple religions, and they all have different takes on them. The one thing that remains constant, however, is that they are simply a personification of death. It is not stated they are exclusively women.

In fact, Mrtyu-mara, a "god" in Buddhism concerned with death, is considered a shinigami and he is depicted as a male.

This isn't to say there aren't female shinigami. Izanami is often times considered a shinigami herself. However, to say they are all female is false. They are a personification of death, and many have no established gender (or no real gender at all, and are simply neutral). There are a multitude of them. Lumping them into one large generic group of women wouldn't be doing them justice.

Thanks for the read :)

Also the title may seem misleading. There are female shinigami. Just not all of them are female.

The Reaper of the Shiki Fūjin is a Hannya Demoness, it is exclusively female with no male counterparts.

If I'm not mistaken, Sir Derp Obito can tell it's a hannya demoness by the mask

It could just as easily represent the Oni, demons in Japanese folklore who had long teeth, hair, and horns growing out of their head.

It is the mask, it's a Hannya Mask representing the Reaper.

Yes I remember reading something about it before. Something about the mask representing a jealous woman.

By the way I love the sig. You are the first person I've come across to have know about Case Closed

Sir Derp Obito is secretly on Kishimoto's writing staff, and to tease us....like a fisherman baiting a rainbow trout...he gives all of us bits of useful information.

I doubt this because Oni aren't typically referred to as any sort of "gods". They are usually depicted as trolls or things of that nature so that doesn't really fit here. I think Sir Derp Obito came to the conclusion of the Hannya mask because it fits within the theme of the shinigami.

Either way it's just a theory, nothing is proven. If you don't mind me saying it seems you have some sort of vendetta against him or something. Almost like you don't even want him to have a slightly plausible theory

Neither are the Hannya Demonesses.

I'm a known opponent of his theory. I'd rather take the chances of me being wrong than going along with his theory.

If you'd like, I can link you (or just post it, it might be lost) to a thread I made that contains 3 points as to why the Sage/Uzumaki theory doesn't make sense. He never countered it of course, because he never responds to me. He mist think he's too good or something. Even when I ask him for sources on his information so I could possibly better my knowledge, he just ignores me.

As they've already pointed out, SDO said it was a Hannya.

Hannya, to the knowledge presented by SDO, are all women.

He never said Shinigami in itself is comprised of all women.

You should thoroughly read SDO's thread before making a counter-theory.

There isn't much content. I've read each multiple times. I even used to be fanboys(girls), like many of you, of this theory.

After research I did on my own, it doesn't add up to me.

Detective Conan is the 'real' name. It is a great series... but the kid could have graduated High School all over again, as long as it drags out.

It's unfortunate that it never gained the traction it should have in the U.S. It is an excellent series. Well - aside from some of the filler. The "plot" cases, as they get deeper in, start to pull some real crazy stuff and some real tear-jerkers.

That said - I think Derp has it correct, here.

While it is true that "not all shinigami are women" - Derp was specifically referring to a specific 'class' of Shinigami based on the mask. This has all been said, already - but I like talking, too. That's what you get for allowing narcissists to register on forums.

Anyway - It seems a relatively minor point to use to contend as an entire thread.
