I think He is not writing it all by his own . His team/crew would continue.

How can a God die o-o

But in all seriousness he probably has the shortend version of OP placed somewhere and once he dies those he intrusted it with would continue

Or atleast thats what I would do

I once read in a OP 'Did you know' that the first Oda does when a new person joins his team, he tells how the story is going to end.

In the least it's safe to assume that Oda is not the only one who knows how the story has to unfold.

The story is not so much of a problem because surely he's planned out his story like every other mangaka has and has had his editors see that plan. If Oda did die, then the problem would be the artwork. I don't believe that anyone can draw Oda's characters the same way Oda can.

I think we can assume that he should have some people under him who learned to draw just like him. It's probably impossible to have the exact same style, but I can't imagine that Oda is the only one each week who is drawing. It varies from mangaka to mangaka, but from what I understand a manga like OP has an entire team supporting it. I can't imagine either that they don't have a back-up plan in case something happens to Oda.

Hopefully Oda never dies.....
Realistically though the manga shouldn't outlive him. And if something did ever happen to Oda i'm sure he has people ready to follow in his footsteps and finish it. Might not be as good, although i'm guessing he already has most of the major plot points already planned.

Well if he was perfectly healthy I would say that there is no way that he would die in the next 10=15 years, but the guy smokes like a chimney, is a regular in the hospital, makes nights of 3-4 hours, hasn't been on vacation as long as he can remember. Apart from all the other stuff he needs to appear on.

I rather want him to look out for himself and give us a chapter every 2 weeks than that his own success will get to him eventually and never is able to finish it.

Remember when oda was ill ?
The manga went on break.

Surely, someone else can't take place of oda and he prefers to make his fans wait rather than let his subordinates draw it for him.

why would someone else draw it if it was just a 2 week break? you know, other than the backgrounds n stuff

yes Oda's schedule is almost like hell but there are people with worse schedules and even some that have a bit more free time but much more stress

PS this is precisely the reason why everytime I see stupid little j???a?? complaining about a break I get the urge to shove the Great Wall of China up their a??es

Oda has a team to help him with researching and choreographing the drawings. If he dies his deputy will probably take over, the drawings may change slightly, but I believe his deputy is also his apprentice. This would mean the art will still be similar, but Oda seems to be reasonably healthy, the only health scares he's had have been due to overexertion.

So if Oda dies the team will continue the story once they can or if they can get over the death of a friend.

Im sure he has a short story planned out which would mark end one piece or maybe want someone to follow his footsteps and continue his creation. Tho i hope that as the Manga started with Oda and should likely end with him.

That's not a valid reference point. Being sick and being dead or two very different situations.

Op is regularly on a break to give the mangaka some rest and/or for him to do some research, so it's not a big drama if they don't release a chapter for one week due to the mangaka being sick. Considering that they work with strict deadlines, if their author and drawer suddenly becomes very ill in the middle of the chapter, then you run the risk of making mistakes because of the confusion that might be caused as you need to reorganize everything on very short notice.

In the hypothetical case Oda dies you can be sure that there will be no new chapter the first few weeks or even months, but that doesn't take way that they probably have a long term solution to make the series keep going. It's just too much of a hassle to put unnecessary stress on everyone of his team to make the deadline in the case he suddenly falls ill, then the best solution is just taking a break for a week.
