The defensive player of the year is a shoe in for Robert Quinn. The man is a beast. Even though he didn't win the Deacon Jones award [up yours Mathis], he outplays Mathis in the run game by a huge amount. Quinn single handedly beat the Saints and Cardinals with his three sacks a game average between the two. He had another three sack game against Tampa. He leads the best D-line in football for shit sake.
Offensive rookie of the year will most likely be Eddie Lacey, but Zac Stacy makes a better case. Zac only had one snap the first four starts of the 2013 NFL season, and after that he had a 86 yard+ a game average on the ground. He was consistent, and only fumbled once. Not too mention he had virtually no passing game unlike Lacy who has Rodgers and some of the best WRs in the NFL. After an adjustment to the NFL level, he was an every down back whose running help set up Clemens, and Tavon Austin's big plays.
Defensive rookie of the year. I honestly don't know who wins this, but if Alec Ogletree doesn't because he is an OLB in a 4-3 system [means he won't get 10+ sacks a year]....may God help the NFL. The dude is a freaking beast. He broke James Laurinitus' record of most tackles in a season as a rookie, and beat out the veteran for the most this year as well. He had 155 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and 6 forced fumbles. Plus the interception he took back 98 yards, and the 2 deflections he made at the line to set up interceptions by Will Witherspoon and William Hayes. This man is a special player.
Comeback player of the year. Jake Long had a damn good season. Sam Bradford was the only QB that was not sacked in this season up till the third game of the year, and his pass protection was not even that great albeit he was top 16 in the league at pass protection. Jake Long was the 2nd best tackle in run protection according to pro football analysis, which is really special. He is worth every penny St. Louis signed him. Mind you he played against players like Demarcus Ware, Robert Mathis, Aldon Smith [twice a year], John Abraham [twice a year], etc.
Best kicker and punter. Well, Johnny Hekker was an undrafted free agent two years ago. Now he set a record of net punt average yards, and is a 1st team all pro punter. He was a QB in high school and is always viable to throw the ball on a fake punt. The dude is a beast. Now Greg the Leg Zuerlein. God damn does this man have a leg. He can hit 60 yarders like he's mad at it. He had a great make/miss average, coming in at 92.9% which is pretty good.
