Prolong his life??? no no, he took medicine to prolong his life after his susanoo was consuming him (YES PEOPLE, THE DATABOOK states Susanoo consumes the User's life)

plus Itachi could have easily killed obito if he knew tobi was obito, But he didn't and so did kisame, only konan and nagato knew that funny tobi was uchiha madara(tobi)
