the place where they were at were outside the village. they meaning the few anbu, the village elder, minato and kushina

he was in the village gathering the ninja.

remember he was gonna stop Kurama. but Kurama released a TBB and minato stopped that and teleported Kurama far away from the village.

left them in the village.

but I do believe they started heading that way as back-up. cause eventually they retrieved Naruto somehow.

cause obito could have easily Kidnapped Naruto and raised him as his own.

Actually I just reread it..hirzen got there after kushina set up the barrier.

Any who he didn't have to die. He couldn't seal all of it into naruto (for some unknown reason) via 8 trigrams seal and instead opted to seal half of it into himself via demon dead seal.
Had kushina resealed it into herself kushina would have still died(nothing was changing that) and minato would be a single dad. The only repercussion would be when kurama gets revived it wouldn't belong to the leaf.

Why he didn't just seal all of it into himself or naruto is beyond me since the seal kushina used looked to be based on or exactly like 8trigrams seal.

The reason for the decision to seal kurama in naruto was made pretty clear

it was to have a fighting chance against obito and the bijuu army, almost no one can deal with obito kamui haxx plus his army of bijuus

it was not because minato didnt want to be a single daddy or any of that nonsense, its okay to joke about it but if you seriously belive it then you are a retard plain and simple

it was also influenced by the elder toad's prophecy about a savior of the world, now the decision to use RDS seems to reached in this way

>seal away nine tails permanently
>prepare a jinchuriki with enough power to handle tobi and maintain balance of bijuus

the reason why minato did not seal the whole of nine tails was because it was physically impossible to completely seal it away
naruto's body is too small a container to hold kurama as noted by jiraiya

If 8 trigrams sealing style was able to seal different chakra's (minato's , kurama's and kushina's) it should be able to seal part of kurama.
Or he seals all of it into himself.
Or he lets kushina seal it into herself.

Besides naruto pretty much did the same thing minato did when he split kurama's will from its chakra. And then he resealed it with 8 trigrams.
