I think It was Konha's fault. The Uchiha were treated like nothing more then a burden that had to be vanquished. The Uchiha were only in the wrong with agreeing to go ahead with the massacre. Until we see the Uchia's side of it, there is no reason to assume they were in the wrong. When they tried to speak, they were met with a stalemate. When they asked questions and requested power, they were all killed. What is this, North Korea? It's amazing that anyone can think the Uchiha were in the wrong. The coup was the right thing to do in a situation where the government wants you dead.

The Uchiha were forced in a corner, and they did what every normal shinobi would do. But I ultimately feel it was Tobirama's fault, too much paranoia.

All Itachi had to do was to show his father and family and the rest of the clan how he felt when he witnessed war waging while he was 4 years old and tell them how it could affect Sasuke.

Konoha was just chillin I don't know what show you've been watching. Hiruzen tried many many times to talk things out but the uchiha were done with being Konohas main protective force I guess :eww: I always thought the uchiha had it good, they were the police force that took care of many problems, and protected the overall safety of the village, then just went all dramatic about everything. It was the uchihas fault, they would have taken over, likely slaughtered many people and became dictators, and it would have invariably resulted in a 4th world war. Tell me what Konoha was going to do that was so much worse than that.

One doesn't trust one's arch enemy that easily.

If I were to sleep in the same house where my arch enemy is also sleeping, though he just accepted my father/brother/relative/friend/superiors hand of friendship; I would still be cautious and suspicious and maybe not be able to sleep peacefully at all.

I am sure that would be the case with my enemy as well.

I guess these kind of dynamics played a heavy hand in building the mistrust between the Senju and the Uchihas.

Not to mention there were some people like Tobirama on the Senju's side to fan matters and maybe some similar equivalent among the Uchihas as well.

But considering how the Uchihas never attempted anything for atleast four generations of hokage; (hell they even went against Madara's thought process for their peace and the unity of the village); had shinobis like Itachi and Shisui who were totally dedicated to the village despite the mistrust shown to them as well, I can completely see why the Uchihas did what they did.

They felt oppressed and they revolted. It wasn't that they didn't try for peace and unity. It was just that the Senju's simply didn't trust them enough.

As the clan from whom a hokage was chosen and had a larger say in the elder committee, I would rather say that the Senju/ruling party is more responsible than the Uchihas for things turning out like they did.

Thats all we got. Either Kishi is an idiot for never mentioning why the Uchiha were doing what they were doing, or, there is a valid reason for the coup and we won't find out till later. Not going to trust Obito's excuse.

The Uchiha would never have let Konoha have such a weak leader that is Hiruzen. He let Hiashi die. He let Yahiko die. He allowed Danzo and Orochimaru to get away with kidnapping 60 children for horrific experiments. He allowed the Uchiha to be put in so much danger, their only hope of survival was the very coup.

False, the Uchiha were marginalized and barred from the position of leadership (hokage) and nothing more. As far as we know, they were no worse off socially and economically than the rest of the population, that is the portrayal as per the manga, end of story. And that hardly calls for an attempted coup that would have surely invited civil war at best and at worst, invasion by other villages leading to much more death.
