If you wanna live without pride then I don't know what to say to you. You'd rather live to have someone stomp all over you and have you be their b*tch, rape you, feed you semen every day, and smack you around or die trying to stand up and keep your pride?

Most or all Anime are Japanese and there's a lot of the Samurai Philosophy in that culture. What you think of as pride is honor. It's a matter of high respect. Die with honor and your immortalized with high regard plus your family treated the same way. Live in shame and your also immortalized forever and also ostracized.

Pride works in anime because it's fiction, in real life too much pride sometimes just makes you look like an idiot

Like vegeta for example if a person like that actually existed and I saw him I would think he is an idiot but in the anime it works
