I disagree.
Sasuke has always been one of the more interesting characters. He's mostly always been in the grey area, not good or bad, conflicting emotions and not sure who to turn to or what to do due to his tragic past. People can call him "emo" all they want but I think given what he's experiences, the way he's been manipulated and tortured... I think it's one of the most realistic characters.
Also, Sasuke generally moves the plot forward. When he goes on one of his hiatus, the manga tends to stagnate and then Sasuke returns and the plot takes a very interesting turn.
