I have one idea. The Gedo Mazo has a known weakness. A long time ago Kisame said that the tailed beasts have to be fed to the statue in order, because the statue is fragile. It was reiterated in the current chapter that the ninetails can't go in yet.

What if Kurama tries to stuff himself suicidally into its mouth before Madara can get even get the first one in? Now that Naruto is no longer a part of him, he can take his own initiative without dragging an ally down with him. As long as he's able to do it without Madara sharinganing him into obedience, I think it's a legitimate tactic.

Madara hasn't been totally flawless during this fight. Obito foiled him the first time he tried to use Rinne Tensei. He also admitted he was careless when Zetsu told him he was bleeding.
