Hasn't been hinted. In sharingan and Rinnengan the eyes act as a tool or device that allow the user to accomplish certain jutsu.

Sharingan evolving into the Rinnengan makes since because it is the only eye besides Rinnengan which allows the use of In'youton (Izanagi). Ordinary eyes can not become the Rinnengan.

I doubt it because Kishi is big on styled fighting and the Rinnegan goes against Naruto's style.

It just doesn't fit his character.

The Sage appearing behind Naruto probably just meant the Juubi saw the similarities between Naruto and the Sage.

That would be dumb. Give the guy with no experience handling doujutsu the strongest one without any real ties to mystical eyes (Basically, not having any doujutsu or related to a clan such as Uchiha or Hyuuga)
