To counter the rinnegan, reviving nagato might be a good option. First revive itachi and he can undo the seal he used to seal nagato. Orochimaru can revive nagato that way.

Because the new generation doesn't have an OP sealing sword and a mirror that can block everything, and even though Itachi is technically a ghost from the past he is definitely part of the new generation since he is Sasuke's brother.
