Some people are throwing out theories back and forth about madara's eyes. Look, people, it's simple. Just look at the top panels

His eyes underwent edo crumbling. Simply put, those eyes weren't his. It was some haxed shit given to his edo state by kabuto. It makes sense seeing as his youthful body never had rinnegan and his old body didn't have it at his time of death either. Kabuto literally gave madara some sort of weird eyes(possibly based on rinnegan DNA from nagato) which completely disappeared now that he's no longer an edo.

In any case, the reason his eyes are close is simply in those panels. The guy literally has no eyeballs.

EDIT: I thought he absorbed amaterasu and it burned his armor off but after rereading I see he took it off to avoid it somehow.

He absorbed ama somehow, just like he absorbed hashi's chakra. If you look again, you'll notice the flame spread to his back even after he took off the armor. I'll have to look into it later, but I need to be somewhere. There's a bit of inconsistencies in this chapter but it's probably because I didn't have time to analyse it properly.
