Remember when Shikamaru's figuring out Hidan's jutsu was presented as an impressive feat? But it didn't really seem all that amazing, did it? So, had there ever been a moment in the manga where you actually felt like, "Ohh, what a smart move by character X!"

Or... His plan didn't really work completely.... But they we're fighting the freaking Juubi so it's still impressive!!

And while I admit the analysis of Hidans abilities wasn't really that impressive, Shikamaru has still has his moments of smartness.

I'd say, he was a bit overhyped by Asuma/Izumo/Kotetsu (and Kishi as well) in that scene, there's basically a whole chapter dedicated to it.

Some Lelouch using a overpowered feats and still losing, not to mention Raito who couldn't beat people even with a book that can kill by names.
