One Piece?

So I recently watched One Piece 621, and I just have one question.

How can anyone take this seriously?

I'm not big on One Piece, I know the general plot of it but I haven't read or watched it except for this one episode.

The episode featured a giant faced, buck-toothed propellor guy and a girl that can change herself into weapons?!

And people take this seriously? I was laughing the entire episode. It seemed like a comedy rather than an action/plot heavy series.

Someone enlighten me.

Well for starters it is as much a comedy as it is acion/plot driven. It has it's moments of both which is what makes it so enjoyable for so many. Also how is it that much more ridiculous than trying to catch monsters in balls that expand and contract in size to become the greatest monster fighter? Or having an enemy who can puke himself out of himself(Orochimaru). Or controling the elements through body movements? It's just entertainment.

Just wanted to point out that the bolded parts are never touched on in Naruto, but I'm sure you take Naruto seriously. Think about that for a second.

The show sucks. It's the equivalent of SpongeBob.

I totally remember when SpongeBob fought the World Government, attacked slave-owners, fought in wars, and broke into prison and faced death to save Spongebob's brother.

Seriously, it's people like you and OP who've only seen a few episodes that have the most worthless and loudest opinions.

When I said equivalent, I didn't mean concept, where the show's plot is mirrored in SpongeBob. I'm talking about how the show is just dumb and has stupid comedy that people love.

Are you serious right now? YOU WATCHED ONE EPISODE, that episode was silly. You have no merit to judge the entire series.

I feel ya but the same can be said for other series is all I was saying. For me the fact that OP has a sense of levity about itself is one of the things I like the most. Oda seems to go out of his way to make grotesque character designs for the villains so it's easier to dislike them, Orochimaru and Aizen were awesome villains who I(and most) liked as much as the hero who we're supposed to always cheer for. OP also takes the time to develop a lot of the characters which other anime/manga don't do.

Anyway one episode doesn't really tell much. You reminded my of my sister and me. She used to love Xfiles . Somehow all the episode I watched with her, were stupid. She claimed it was my luck and that usually it was more interesting.

Naruto doesn't have drug abuse, racism and eugenics and corrupt government? You missed Yamato, Kabuto , Oro, Danzou, Uchihas and whole other bunch it seems. Think again.

But, even if it didn't have that I don't see why we should be comparing it on these points. OP touches many such issues fleetingly and mostly for emotional charge. It adds all the spice as OP verse is quite large. Not that it is a serious documentary on these issues. A story has elements which suits the plot and depends on the story the write is telling us. The focus on the issues differ and is handled accordingly.

It's not a typical all time serious or all time jokes show. Its got both things in it. Sometimes it deals with serious concepts sometimes the characters fool around. You find it silly cause you've seen just that one ep.... The show's got a lot of depth in it cause of the issues it deals with like riker pointed it above.

I'm sorry, I missed the part where anyone in Naruto was addicted to drugs. Or are you really trying to say DNA is a drug? C'mon Ira, you know that's not true.

The Uchiha wasn't really a case of eugenics, evident by how Sasuke was kept alive. The Uchiha were a group of people that needed to be eliminated, and they just happened to be a family. They weren't eliminated BECAUSE they were a family. That's why it's not eugenics.

When has Naruto ever dealt with racism? Don't even say Jinchurikis or Tailed Beasts, they're not races.

When has Naruto had corrupted government? You mean Danzo? He was no more part of the government than was a private organization.
