Remember when Minato used his space-time manipulation justu and made is Kuni float and teleported the Nine Tails, Tail Beast Bomb.
This is what happen he manipulated time around his Kuni and made it stop, so the Kuni can freeze in mid air and then he manipulated space around the kuni to make a portal. That is what happen hope that helps

I'm not saying Minato can freeze all of time tho and make everything stop, just to let ya know.

Just to explain myself a little bit more in detail, you know how if u have a bucket of water and poor it over a house and you see water fall out and hit the ground. But if u freeze the Time in the the space of which the water is in (like Minato did) it would make the water stop in mid air before it hit the ground (like with Kuni).

If you think about it, he just used his chakra to make the kunai float. There was no space time technique needed for it to float. Same as with rasengan and other techniques that float or are a distance away from the user.
