Gohan fell when he stopped training. He achieved his true and strongest max potential form, Mystic and he was never the same after the Buu fight.

Yea. Kishi was going to make Gohan the main character during the time Cell was defeated by ssj2 Gohan. Although after lots of criticism from manga fans, he ended up keeping Goku as the main character.

Gohan was just not the right character to play the main protagonist role.

That's not a greater achievement because Gohan defeated extremely powerful antagonists like Cell and Bojack. They would of proceeded to destroy the earth (the most important thing in DBZ) if Gohan didn't stop them. Gohan is his fathers son. End of story.
