Obito's reason's go further than Rin or even kakashi. After witnessing Rin's death, His perspective of The world changed in a flash of a second when he saw one of the most precious people in his life killing his his other precious person in cold blood all because of the Ninja system and the shinobi ways.

After he witnessed that incident, he wanted to change the fate of the world and Create a place where peace exist for everyone.

If he wanted to be with only rin, again he could of attached himself to gedo mazou and lived in a dream by himself there, but he did not because hes looking for greater peace.

Hes doing more than a hokage should be doing, He going up and above a hokage and taking matters into his own hands in order to bring peace, Even madara has the same goal.
