Actually the recent chapters of Fairy Tail have been better than Naruto as of late.
Fairy Tail has seemingly had "no plot" because its actually doing what the characters in the story actually do: Take contracts as Mages, and get paid for it. When was the last official mission Naruto went on that was a standard issue mission: Zabuza and Haku.
Sasuke retrieval arc was a specially assigned mission. Kazekage rescue was a special mission. Itachi pursuit arc was a special mission.
Naruto stopped being about Ninjas who go and do missions for the name of the village and for request. It became about Naruto hunting down Sasuke for a promise. And he simply kept his dream for Hokage.
Fairy Tail kept the members of FT doing their job. Even with that there exists a plot line now: stopping Zeref who is a dark mage.
While the fights in Fairy Tail usually end with a somewhat rinsed and repeated Nakama power, it's nowhere near the level of trolling Akatsuki got. Not to mention the villains aren't getting TNJ'd (I guess Talk No Spelled).
Honestly I love every manga I read/have read for it's unique qualities. Naruto for ninjas. Fairy Tail for magic.
Both have high notes and low notes. In the end, personal preference determines which is better. I honestly find them to be equal. Because I'm that kind if person
