Hmm... You're half right , but I doubt it . If he is really doing this for the promise , then why didn't he tell it Kakashi , his best friend ? I think Obito wants peace on this world , but he is doing this on a wrong way , because Madara taught him so . He said it himself .

This makes me belive that Rin was just a trigger and Obito "uses" her memories to stregnthen his will . Of course , Rin is also an important person to Obito , since she was the one who cared about him , he was an orphan too , Kakashi being a douche and Minato busy making Naruto Lol . I don't blame Obito though . He is the best character on this manga .

Well I agree that he is a well written character but I think that from what we read in the last chapter he is taking a shortcut to it he is taking the way he thinks will work and He actually is doing this to keep his promise with Rin adn for the Ninja world too thatns for reading though
