He said he won't become like him (chapter 611).

Chapter 653... now they're alike.

Did he just... retract his words? I mean, Naruto did tell he won't become like him not knowing him, but if we speak strictly... he did retract.

What do you think?

Perhaps, I think that Naruto was saying that he wouldn't become like him in the sense that he'd turn evil and/or give up on his dreams and friends, which when you think about it still stands

Not exactly.
In the first image, 611, Naruto talked about the Obito currently in that situation, saying he will never become like him.

But in the next image, 653, Naruto now knows how Obito's past was before Rin's death, and on normal person basis (excluding people ignoring Naruto because of Kyuubi) they are alike having no parents but with the same dream.

What makes them different are the situations they went through.
Obito already had Madara to make him walk the path of IT
But Naruto gathered more friends on his way towards Hokage dream.

I took that in consideration (though it seems not many people likes to read carefully and bashes threads blindly).

What I wanted to state is that Naruto really retracted his words. It happens because sometimes he talks without knowledge.

Yeah and if you read it it clearly says that they are alike as in same back ground not as in want to destroy the world like obito wants to now

Wut .__. Naruto said they are alike he didn't state he'd become like him and he was obviously referring to the past Obito.

To both of you, I would invite you to read carefully what I posted before giving an opinion. I already assumed your cases, but that is not the point of the thread.

My point is that sometimes Naruto tell things without knowledge, and due his rushed statements he is forced to retract on his words.

He hasn't retracted his words has he. All he said was they grew up the same and that they had the same goal to become hokage.

Naruto said that because he did not know much about Obito but after their chakra mixed he found out everything about Obito... He found out that they were pretty much the same growing up and how tragedy affected him.. Naruto saw exaxtly what is in Obito's heart...
This is just like real life... You see the way someone acts and starts judging them without knowing why or what caused that person to act that way.

In 611 he said he won't become like Obito.

In last chapter he said they were alike.

The difference (as I stated in the original post) is that now Naruto knows about Obito's past. But you can't deny that to change from "I won't be" (chapters ago) to "We are alike" is an explicit contradiction. He went back on his words, no matter which excuses could justify this fact.

That's the thing that bought me to open this topic. If Naruto keeps declaring rushed statements without further knowledge he will end retracting his own words more and more frequently.

Exactly. There is a lot of times when people makes mistakes and so they must retract his words in order to correct themselves. It is an act of humilty, to admit your mistakes (even if unconsciously).

ditto, Naruto clearly mentioned they are very alike after witnessing Obito's hardships firsthand

It's not a contradiction because past obito and juubi obito are two different people juubi obito is evil well at the moment anyway that will change soon past obito was good. It's past obito that naruto is alike. Juubi obito is nothing like naruto is he so how can that be a contradiction

Past and current Obito are the same, and this was stated in the manga. He mantained his trueself when struggling against the Juubi in order to hold his memories, so I hold on my statements that it is a contradiction.

The Obito before and after becoming Jinchuuriki are the same.

Really people, it is a simple matter, not that hard to understand. Sometimes Naruto's mouth is too big and he makes mistakes. Why should he be perfect? :p
