That is true on your first part. And I do agree on your second point if it is done with intellectual members who actually want to have a civil and mature discussion on the matter. But considering most of the ignorance found on this site, this is not the place to do it. Threads like these never end well.

Race is biological. Ethnicity is sociocultural.

For example. I'm Asian by race, but I moved to the States. My ethnicity is Asian and Asian-American, because I was exposed to American culture and therefore have elements of it as a part of my cultural identity. I'm not Caucasian (Race), but I'm still American (ethnicity).

I really don't know who the f*ck they're trying to impress. The difference between African-American and Caucasian skin is real. It's insignificant, but it's real nevertheless. Unless they're really trying to tell me that black skin and white skin is the same thing :|. I don't know why they're acting like just saying "I'm black", or "I'm white" or "I'm Asian" is gonna create some kind of division in NB.

There's nothing wrong with the topic of what you're race is. EVERY topic on NB has stupid people who only aim to offend and start flamewars. I assume then that we should all just shut the hell up then, right?
