I'm going to explain this as clearly as I can. I don't know if this is right or even close. I get that it traps a person in an endless loop of events. but how?

so when you are about to use izanami. you must visualize an image or situation that is related to the sequence of events that has happened. (which I think Itachi called that "A" in the explaination.) and when izanami is activated. the opponent experiences an endless loop of events that has occurred mixed with the situation that you visualized in your head.

so your opponent would be experiencing at times what really happened and other times having reality being mixed in your own visual.and would all end in the same way. then repeats.

Is this correct???? I tried making it as clear as possible.

Izanami uses the sharingan like a camera.

First you take a picture with your sharingan (let's call this picture A).

Then you take another SIMILAR picture with your sharingan (let's call this A')

As soon as you take that second picture, the opponent is thrown into a loop. And they are forced to relive events happening between A and A'.
