Should anime become mainstream?

So I was wondering, should anime become mainstream? Just think about it , having people to talk to about anime, having everyone understand this concept of "anime" , being able to wear anime shirts without being embarressed and so on, but if anime becomes mainstream, then it will also become different, it will change because of the popularity it is getting...and so different people will request different stuff and anime might just evolve into some whole other prospect .

Not only that , us anime fans will also loose our uniqueness we shared when this was just a strange addicting hobby of watching anime that was only understood by other anime fans just like you . The strange characteristics of anime are the stuff that appeals to us , and yes it might be great for anime to be acknowledged, is it really worth it for these characteristics to be vanished and replaced by something else?

So, do we, as an anime fanbase want it to be popular and mainstream?

I wouldn't care less if it did or didn't, wouldn't affect my liking of it. It would open a lot of people's minds but as long as cartoons appeal to children. It will always be seen as "childish".

Even if they did and the market became extra cluttered with it, a true anime/manga fan can see through the bullsh*t and find good series.

DBZ dubbed is actually better than in Japanese and it was a BIG hit in UK and USA. Yugioh GX was aimed at a western crowd and was not that bad (although incomparable to the original and 5Ds). Naruto and One Piece were quite big but they stopped airing (at least in the UK anyway).

Anime already is mainstream. A lot of people I know watch it. And in Japan and other east Asian nations : Anime is probably the equivalent to the UK's soaps etc.

Wow, that's awesome , My high school has an anime club , and there's only a few people, and the only anime they know is Naruto, One piece or bleach ._.

Like regular shows on weekly T.V , that kind of mainstream , No , many people don't know what anime is & means & if animes are gonna be water down in order to show them to the retard children who don't even know what they are watching & put them in kids channels, it will only make it worst for us .

If Animes ever shows in , let's say America T.V they need to be consider as series not cartoons & have fair amount of showing without BS , Toonami doesn't count .

So , no , I'm happy the way it is , but it's getting pretty popular each year , so it might end up happening anyways .

Um.... YES! I would love it! It's sort of a mainstream in Japan though... LUCKY THEM! I want more fellow otakus and I don't have any anime related clothes, but if I did, I'd be embarrassed to wear it..... SO HELL YES! MAINSTREAM FOR THE WIN...
But if it isn't then I'd be fine with it.... I just want more otakus in my school and stuff D: There are probably heaps of otakus in some schools where I live though....
