Though he has already saved the shinobi world two going on three times now. By bringing Orochimaru back (which is the direct cause for the Hokage being brought back to life), help defeat Kabuto and end ET and now he is one of the main players in the fight against Obito and Madara.

Yes, he assaulted the Kage Summit and teamed up with two major criminal organizations, but his other actions balance this out somewhat. Because if you think about it, Orochimaru also saved the five current Kage (another direct cause from Sasuke reviving Orochimaru.)


Edit: He did play a role in the revival of the Juubi though, Bee's tentacle, I won't be biased.

Why do some people think that Naruto can give Sasuke the Hokage position?

First the feudal Lord and his advisors will choose the canditate(s) and then the people of the village have to vote for the new Hokage.

Even though Sasuke is helping in the war, that doesn't mean that he will be forgiven for his past actions.
