this is probably the reason why one piece is the most popular in japan and not received as well overseas... The unique art style and crazy character designs seems weird and crazy to people say from the US, but stuff like that is normal by japan's standards

The weird crazy designs makes the series and opens up opportunities to endless character designs where you can tell the character apart from the others and are memorable even with the thousands of characters oda introduces

LOL Doflamingo is like the same height as Aokiji when he's slouching.

Oda sure loves adding leg hair/chest hair to his characters. Again, something that we don't see so often in manga/anime.

i mean you wouldnt get the feel that they are pirates without showing their rugged manliness

This is kinda off-topic but who had a first impression of Doflamingo being g@y.

Me lol. Turns out he fuks b*tches. In my book Doflamingo is one of the manliest characters in OP.

It's true Oda's style isn't perfect, it's not very realistic and he doesn't keep the proportions to the characters. It was an issue for me when I started reading but very soon I realized that his style match perfectly with the world he created on the series. To be fair, he might exaggerate the proportions or characteristics of the characters but he is able to create very "full" backgrounds, unlike other mangakas. His work is vivid and very detailed, so this is more of a positive aspect imo.

One Piece is about adventure and exploration. If Oda doesn't explore the limits of how whacky his characters look then it's kinda an oxymoron right?

I guess. But I wonder how it would have looked if his characters looked more normalish.

If they looked more normal the comedy value would go down and the seriousness would go up. I can see all characters looking normal with only Fishmen having bizarre designs. That would be pretty incredible to see what Whitebeard and Chinjao would look like.

I personally prefer his art-style to that of Naruto or Bleach or a style like AOT or Battle Royale any day.

With it Oda created a world that is completely unique, it is so original and detailed and each character is special as opposed to Naruto where most faces and hair just look the same, not to metion that all the villages have the same concept by definition . I love the art-style because there is absolutely no limit to it, Oda can do anything he wants and it will feel as a part of the OP world. Oda is probably the only one who can make a giraffe THAT badass. When I was a kid I loved manga because of adventure and the vivid imagination, OP is the best at that, noone out there beats Oda in imagination and OP is pretty much the ultimate adventure and a lot of it is because of the art-style that lets Oda create the unique world.

Other mangaka usually restrict their worlds with certail rules, limits of powers, limited amount of types of character designs. But Oda created a world where literally anything can happen and it would not seem out of place.

Just compare an average page of Naruto to a page of OP, in comparison the Naruto page looks almost empty

Oh that's so cool! Particularly like Watsuki's. Slam Dunk Luffy looks badass and old! Thanks for sharing.

Yeah, that's exactly it. I'd like to see the look of WB or Moria or Kuma. Or Usopp's nose.

I personaly love Oda's style that crazy out of this world view he puts in op makes it stand out the more. The charectors' uneveness to me is s plus as variety goes way up and even before u get the charetor doing crazy stuff u can just feel it from first glane and anyway they are pitates, not that many were fare faced historicaly n what Oda did pictures that perfectly. Naruto and Bleach pages to me seem very blank when cimpared to 1piss pages.
