I don't know, in the anime, he was able to create a bubble sheild that enabled him to withstand explosions. Although not on par with Deidara's but having being perfect with his Bujuu, its durability of bubbles should increased.

Since Utakata is mainly Suiton and Deidara being Doton (Doton>Suiton), will develop counters to deal with his situation. He can either attempt to try and fly out of its range with Bubble Float, go to v2 cloak (while holding his breath), or fire a Buijuudama so he can avoid his own death,

Defensively speaking with Sasuke, Utakata can either use the shockwave of his v1/v2 cloak to push it to another directions, Using alots of bubbles to ruin Sasuke's line of sight, or blocking with a Bubble shield making a temporal escape route while it burns through the Water of the bubbles.
