well against fire benders who can use lightning its useful but roku hasnt shown it doesnt matter. Not in this match but its very useful in general. I just didnt agree with how u said its almost useless
He got much better and performed some amazing feats like the earth slide wall and his whole airbending skills like cooling the lava and just took it to a whole new level when we saw his feats at his home island that is what i am talking about. And he is also older when he fights and beats sozin not a 28 year old.

Toph has some amazing feats later on in the series even in the end of season 2 but her main advantage is that she can counterattack with the utmost precision compared to any earthbender ever seen so no roku isnt better just cause of that one feat. And biggest feat of all she achieved the novel Metal bending and was able to bend it very well as seen in the final eps of the show. Making the biggest feat isnt only the important aspect but also the part of waiting and striking at the best moment and toph does that. Toph has impressive feats of earth bending of her own she freaking held a huge old library so aang would get out alive. And she even performed sand bending during that time and improved on it later on in the show THAT IS ONE Impressive earthbender and even roku's feats are not enough. she has power and extreme predictive ability that is her best aspect because she learned from the badger that is why she was so easily above all earthbenders that is something that is undeniable. Not saying that others can't reach to her level but she got a huge edge due that and its probably the best source for earthbending no doubt about it

You are right toph has a very advanced and unique skill set that may have been passed on to aang. However even without the avatar state Roku completely outmatched her. With one swipe of his hand he basically cut an island in half. Toph never did that.
Roku wins. Prime aang is kinda featless and young aang would get raped.
