Gaara Vs. Itachi

Itachi's Arsenal:

I'll start off my post by saying that Gaara could easily take any Uchiha, excluding those of the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan status, such as Sasuke and Madara. (And Obito)

First and foremost, lets have a look at Uchiha Itachi's techniques and fighting style. (Each one Gaara has a solid counter for)

- Tsukiyomi - potential one hit K.O. ability if not broken out of
- Amaterasu - potential one hit K.O. ability, though doesn't pose a threat to Gaara
- Exceptional use of Ninja tools
- Full Susano'o
- Totsuka Blade- Possessing one hit K.O. ability
- Yata Mirror, negating all attacks
- Some of the best reaction timing
- Low stamina/chakra reserves

Gaara's Arsenal:

Gaara is one of the most versatile, if not the most versatile character in this Manga when it comes to combat, (not close combat, of course)

- Sand Manipulation
- Aerial abilities
- Reaction Timing corresponding to his sand
- Absolute defense

Not as much in his arsenal as Itachi, but his Sand Manipulation covers a large margin of combat tactics that make him tough opponent to beat.

Gaara's Counters to Itachi's Techniques:

Amaterasu, the Eternal Black flames and highest form of Katon:

Gaara has seen the Eternal Black flames, and knows how to deal with them accordingly as depicted in the scan provided above. But you're probably thinking, this is Enton... the manipulation of Amaterasu.. how is Amaterasu itself countered by Gaara of the Sand?
This Manga scan should suffice:

Amaterasu would merely be shrugged off by Gaara's sand, that simple. Amaterasu is a non-factor to be played by Itachi Vs. Gaara, it has immense side effects on Itachi's part to produce little outcome on Gaara, and isn't worth the effort. As stated before, Itachi doesn't have the chakra reserves to spam his MS tech's, especially against a power house like Gaara.

Tsukiyomi:

Would be biggest threat in this fight for Gaara, yes, Tsukiyomi. Gaara is the Kazekage and has intelligence on the Uchiha, and understand that eye contact should be avoided especially against an Uchiha of Itachi's infamous caliber.

The answer to this fight against Itachi's Tsukiyomi would simply be this:

Gaara's third eye made purely of sand, gives Gaara the ocular advantage of avoiding direct eye contact with Itachi, which essentially avoids Genjutsu as it's not biologically connected to Gaara's eyesight, merely through his chakra.

Deadly Use Ninja tools:

Not much to say on this point, merely that Gaara's sand speaks for itself:

Gaara's sand has been proven to protect him from Ninja attacks to a certain extent, anything Itachi has to throw at Gaara would be a waste of his efforts/energy, which Itachi couldn't afford to waste against a Chakra monster such as
Gaara.

Full Susano'o, Totsuka, and Yata:

Completely useless. Yes, I just called Susano'o, Totsuka Blade useless in a fight Vs. Gaara. Why? Gaara has the skies:

People might wonder if how long it takes for Gaara to go aerial. Well, it doesn't take very long at all.[ --> ] , which gives Gaara the advantage of taking the skies and beginning his formation of chakra beneath Itachi's very foundation which he stands on:

The scan depicted is located where this fight will take place, so there should be no argument that Gaara wouldn't be able to create vast amounts of sand in short amounts of time, while being on the offensive and defensive, pushing Itachi to his limits within mere minutes.

How the fight would playout:

- First off, Gaara imediatly takes the skies, and immediately starts the process of turning rocks and minerals etc. from the ground below on the battlefield into sand he can use for offensive and defensive purposes. He doesn't want to get too close to someone of Itachi's caliber, he'd calmly analyze the situation from a distance, constantly being on the offensive and defense of Itachi's Katon and Amaterasu.

- Itachi doesn't have the chakra reserves to outlast a fight Vs. Gaara, and he certainly wouldn't have any time to safely analyze the fight like Gaara can. Itachi isn't a buffoon, he would activate Susano'o and try to end the fight before Gaara can accumulate more sand than Itachi can handle.

- Question and Answer time: Can Totsuka blade reach Gaara and does Yata Mirror help in this fight? No and no.

Itachi's Susano'o height:

Compared to how high Gaara is in this Manga scan here:

-Once Gaara is in the sky, he forms a sand dome, similar to the one depicted here, but stronger:

-The difference in height doesn't even compare. Gaara would be safe from Totsuka Blade, I am vowing it a non-factor in this debate, so I won't address it too much further.

-This is also where Gaara would form his third eye as I've talked about earlier, and can safely analyze the situation from the skies and avoid Tsukiyomi. All Amaterasu that hits Gaara's sand is simply shrugged off as Gaara forms more to utilize and re - strengthen his defenses, and I don't see Itachi using Amaterasu more than 3-4 times without being severely and heavily chakra drained.

-Yata Mirror wouldn't pose a threat, due to Gaara's unique attack style. After 3-5 minutes into this fight, Gaara would have accumulated enough sand to use amounts of this scale:

-Once we're at this point, Gaara has practically won the fight, all he has to do his pressure Itachi, draining his chakra reserves by keeping Itachi's Susano'o up. Gaara follows up the now completely sand flooded battlefield with a few sand shockwaves, weakening Susano'o after each one.

- Once Susano'o is gone, Gaara follows this up relentlessly with a sand coffin, breaking every last bone in Itachi's body. Something a near chakra drained, and near death Itachi would have no counter or defense for.

Conclusion:

Itachi is a fierce opponent to many, but someone like Gaara of the Sand has counters to many of his techniques. Gaara has an absolute defense to tank anything Itachi could throw at him. Gaara can safely avoid Tsukiyomi, and is safely out of reach of Totsuka Blade. Yata Mirror is a non factor, as Gaara's sand is versatile and attacks Itachi from all angles, throwing his Susano'o off balance and possibly disrupting his concentration, depending on how much chakra is being put into the attack.

Thanks for reading, and a giant shout out to my man AkatsukiChurch for re-constructing my thread because I was too lazy to.U_U

People tend to underestimate Suna shinobi such as Gaara and Sasori while they wank Konoha characters such as Itachi, Tsunade, Jiraiya, etc.

Does Kimi > Itachi? He can break out of genjutsu by transforming into CM, and....never mind susanoo blade solo's I forgot :|

OT: I agree, Gaara is like Toff from Avatar, he can sense the sand and vibrations so he wouldn't need to see Itachi.
On the other hand if gaara can't see Itachi then he can't see the solo blade coming and it would either perice the sand and suck him and it up or it will break.

You propose that gaara can & will fight by using his third eye alone, it then becomes a simple matter of attacking gaara's blindspots.

I'm pretty sure he was tricked or something. >_> But the 4th Kazekage is much weaker than Gaara or Sasori anyways. :p

I agree with everything you said, except maybe with the Tsukiyomi thing. U_U Just a question but could he fight whilst using that "sand eye" or whatever it's called?

This is solely subjective to Gaara being cognizant of Itachi's arsenal and an advantageous terrain....Otherwise Genjutsu ends this. Now the Sharingan is able able to discern the mechanics of all Ninjutsu, Taijutsu and Genjutsu without restriction and goes on to enable the user to accurately predict all movements of the opponent in sight. Gaara is already at an initial advantage due to Tsukuyomi; a Genjutsu cultivated from the Mangekyou which can be activated via eye contact and as the Kazekage's initial notion in this battle [your route] is not to defend eye contact but rather execute the timely process of 'flight' then a 'third eye' leaves him vulnerable to Itachi's special version of the Genjutsu: Moon eater. It is a Genjutsu sparked solely on eye contact.

Now even if the third eye is employed; it makes little difference. If we examine the rudiments: Genjutsu affects chakra flow to the brain, meaning, though the Third eye is not a biological attachment, it evidently functions identically as one and must relay the information seen to the brain via the aforementioned chakra connection. Light clusters that travel from the object to the eye pass through the lens, where it is severed and falls reversely on the retina at the back of the eye. Here, via this chakra connection the light is converted into electrical signals that are transmitted to the center of vision in the back part of the brain thus enabling Gaara to see through the eye. Itachi simply manipulates this connection and Gaara is ceased. Amaterasu is another counter but it has already been highlighted:

Now as Gaara cannot constantly battle Itachi without making Eye contact [give or take the few moments he would be able to do so] and that he is unable to anticipate the pinnacle Genjutsu Tsukuyomi; he would eventually be caught and if he manages to survive would have maintained a critical decline in his battling ability and mental stability. Itachi employs the Genjutsu a second time finishing him off. Given that Itachi's Tsukuyomi and his Dusk Crow Genjutsu solely requires eye contact; it means that they may be used inter changeably yet jointly with something such as a Kunai strike to the neck or Totsuka to finish. As regards Amatearsu and the employment of Ketai Henka over the technique; as your scan has elaborated; the armor of sand covers Gaara through his own will, highlighting that it is not an automatic response to stimuli by the sand itself but rather Gaara's anticipation of the incoming attack which may be intercepted by Amaterasu if his immediate defenses are occupied countering other jutsu. Itachi's physical prowess, highly notable reflexes and complex use of bunhsin, and the fact that his speed was a '5' as opposed to Kimmimaro's '4.5' is sufficient to say that he would able to avoid the high speed sand while on foot and the Sharingan has already Gaara's sand.

Nothing but a timely process with various openings for Itachi. Karasu Bunshin would allow Itachi to close the gap between the two and also allow him to attak from both within the air and on land as well as enforce Genjutsu. The mere fact that Itachi is knowledgeable of his arsenal, Gaara wouldn't have time to grind sand and it is highly questionable if he can take to the skies given: Tsukuyomi [as mentioned above]. Found it rediculous that Gaara would ascend to the heights at which he fought Deidara when there is absolutely no reason to do unless he intends to lose sight of Itachi. In as much as Gaara's ability to manipulate earthen elements it ultimately amounts to nothing if he cannot breach Itachi's Genjutsu and intellect. The fact is, Gaara cannot kill Itachi; a substantive defense such as the V1-Susanoo's ribcage is sufficient to prohibit any type of Sand burial and even if faced with with jutsu such as , Susanoo's ability to perform CQC and basic physical actions allows Itachi to effortlessly escape. On the contrary Itachi has various ways to finish Gaara Such as Izanami. The Genjutsu works by using your opponents senses [ ] and begins when the user sees fit to do so by saying "Izanami". All else that is required is for the Itachi to replicate the same Bodily sensation:

You must be registered for see images

The jutsu was created to control the Uchiha abusers of izanagi and the mere fact that it was used on Kabuto highlights the fact that it can be used outside of it's intended purpose. Even having prior knowledge of the jutsu doesn't save Gaara from it has he possesses no counter. Secondly, a spirit weapon which seals anything [both living and non living] it pierces can be used to seal not only Gaara's immediate Defense once in contact but any amounts of Sand thrown at him. Yata no Kagami also repels any waves of sand directed toward Itachi; Gaara cannot anticipate itachi's bunshin given the pace in which he is able to create them and even being able to do so while using shuriken. The Kazekage stands a slim chance at besting the true potential of the Mangekyo Sharingan. Itachi takes this low-Mid diff.

That's actually very questionable.

It's the only point in my post that I'm not 100% on, but I still stand by it for the most part.
