Do you remember during the Chunin exams, when Kabuto healed Hinata, why would Kabuto do something like this, is it a friendly thing? Or is it that he wanted to know more about the Byakugaan? Because to use the Byakugan abilities, the Hyuuga should be alive, so that was a good chance for Kabuto to take some DNA! What do you guys think about it?

He most likely did that on a whim, beside Orochimaru has only show interest Sharingan and the Rinnegan and Wood Style.

No, I don't think so, as powerful as the Byakugan is, it doesn't have the skills and abilities that Ororchimaru i needed to get to the Rinnegan. Orochimaru wants to learn all Ninjutsu.

This is the case only for the secondary family branch. The main branch's byakugan doesn't get sealed after death, so it can be used by other shinobi. That's the way Ao got his byakugan,
