Gaara won fair and square. A win is a win. Nothing you say or do will change the fact that Lee lost to someone better than him.

I'm not saying Gaara was unfair, rather I'm saying the win was unrealistic. Without the aid of Kishimoto, Rock Lee would've won. If you believe otherwise, please explain how my points are wrong.

Maybe I'm overrating him... but I think Rock Lee alone could put up a serious fight 1 vs 18 (everyone else other than Gaara). His only problems would likely be Sauske, Shikamaru, Neji, and Temari. But on a lucky day, I could see Rock Lee winning... or at least taking out several and putting up an extraordinary fight. Thoughts?

Agreed that Lee should have won that fight and Gaara was saved by plot. Worst of all he never got redemption for that loss.

No offense or anything, but I personally think this series is going to be kinda bad only for the fact that there are too many variables that go into any fight and its outcome. Yes, there are always going to be things that could've happened but how can you ever say for sure what should've happened when what happened already happened? It just seems like a bit of a waste to me but I'll entertain the thread. Not going to down you for creating the thread because it's not a bad idea, it's just too complicated.

OT: In my opinion, plot no jutsu is just an excuse for butthurt fans who are upset about an outcome. Yes, perhaps Lee was raping Gaara in that fight. No one can watch or read the fight over and say he didn't. But doesn't it take more than just strength and speed to win a fight? Gaara used his mentality. Encasing himself in sand armor and using his gourd made of sand to break some of the impact is genius and shows why Gaara's defense was so highly regarded. Lee or no one else accounted for the possibility that, that gourd was made of sand. Everyone focused on the fact that the sand they saw come out of the gourd couldn't keep up and that was where everyone messed up. Had Gaara been able to stand up immediately and then using Sand Coffin, that's definite plot and terrible writing, but the outcome really isn't a problem at all for me.

Rock lee did have the best chance against him.
The others would have been obliterated

He and gaara were definitly the strongest back then.

Definitely? I wouldn't be so sure considering apparently there was a guy Lee was itching to beat who was also considered a bad match-up for him in Neji.

Lee too was saved by plot. Fortunately, he's even alive. And what sort of redemption would you have wanted him to get?

What an awful idea

Agreed.

Lee got solo'd fair and square.

Just be thankful his sensei stepped in before Lord Gaara ended the fight.

^This.

Who knows, it may prove to be. But it's all for the sake of fun and conversation, so I don't mind taking the risk. In addition, those variables can be used as part of the discussion, even to counter my argument. I know a lot is loose because fights are more dynamic than what most mention. However, in a manga/anime, I believe they're simple enough to be critiqued :)

Hence why I brought up the fact that this is like the worst match-up possible- he would've beat anyone else (another discussion, another time). But nonetheless, you are right, speed and strength aren't everything. However, Gaara's gimmicks were flowing with plot-chakra. Explain to me these things:
-How is it that a base Lee punch can damage a large portion of the armor, while repeated 4th gate punches and eventually a 5th gate punch cannot even brake a piece off? Bad writing there... Proportionally, his armor should've been shattered to pieces in a few seconds, and then him himself.
-I'll just copy and paste what I said earlier for this: "Lastly, even if he did survive all that without a scratch to his body, having a little bit of sand under him shouldn't save him from anything- at least not logically. We already know his sand couldn't keep up, so it literally could just become sand- it doesn't have time to catch him, cushion him, or in any way be manipulated. It's solely just a few pounds of sand laying behind him without time to do anything useful. Yet, of course, Gaara's plot-shield wasn't pierced."
You try getting slammed into concrete at super-sonic speeds, with 5 buckets of sand under you. I don't see that making any difference.

Definitely? I wouldn't be so sure considering apparently there was a guy Lee was itching to beat who was also considered a bad match-up for him in Neji.
In the flashbacks, we see that Lee only fought (including vs Neji) a) without ANY gates b) with weights on. In such a state, someone as skilled as Neji could certainly win. Let's not forget though that Neji was astonished by Rock Lee and that Lee said himself he was saving his secret techniques for Neji.

Lee too was saved by plot. Fortunately, he's even alive. And what sort of redemption would you have wanted him to get?
I agree. If you ignore all the plot protection that Gaara received, then yes, Rock Lee should died at the end in his post-gate state. Although, that would've happened if it were not for Gai, so I wouldn't call that plot anyhow.

Read this post's 1st paragraph.

Can't explain that to you, I guess they got lazy with the animation and figured no one would pay attention that closely to the details. Or it's possible that Gaara increased the amount of sand armor and put more chakra into it thus strengthening it? (That'd be logical considering he should assume he's been damaged already and would want to prevent the armor from being as easily pierced the second time) Who knows. Not everything can be explained accurately unless you're the author yourself.

Yeah, that's likely it. But, if there weren't lazy, then how could have he made a clone without notice? Without lazy writing / plot-no-jutsu, Gaara would've been hit with Primary Lotus- or at the very, very best, escaped under Rock Lee's notice. It's jsut not possible for Gaara to substitute a clone like that.

As for the Sand Armor, someone else did bring that up, good point. He would put more Chakra into it. While we have no proof nor indication, even if we assume that we still have a problem. You see, when Lee was pummeling him around at supersonic speeds & superhuman strength, he was getting hit multiple time per second. Many times per second. You see, that ordeal as well as the final hit took very little time. Anywhere from less than a minute to less than 10 seconds, it varies depending on the source and interpretation. But know this- When you're getting slammed repeadetly each second, you don't have time nor ability to put more Chakra into your armor. At that point, whatever happens is already happening.

There's no way Gaara could've calculate how much he'd need to protect from the 5th gate, something he'd never seen before. And once he started hitting Gaara, there's no chance to strengthen it. Therefore, Gaara still should've lost- in my honest opinion :)

Just a side point (and I'm some-what saying this for bumping reasons) but does anyone else think it's strange that in a year or 2, Rock Lee went from normal dude to 5th gate, and he's a character who is literally training day and night to become stronger, and he's no where close to proportionally improved in Shippuden? Just saying...

Because he had no panel time to show what he can do or not, he might have capablity to do new techs or can open other gates; but it can't be known since he hadn't been shown.
Based on what we saw, Konohamaru is stronger than first Mizukage as well; since latter have shown nothing. I don't think Lee have stopped improving but he just haven't been shown.

That's true, in truthfulness the K11 in general have received little screen time. But we do know some things, including the fact he was still regarded as Chunin while Neji was Jonin.

I guess what I'm saying is this: Kishimoto basically made Rock Lee an overpowered character with an extraordinary exponential growth rate and potential. I can't blame him for not maintaining that... if so, then improving at the speed he did (1-2 years, 5 gates, with an underdeveloped body) by this time who knows what he may have accomplished (8 gates - no death, new techs, higher speeds, physics manipulation, drunk + gates, advanced weapon use, who knows). Kishi messed up when he made a character who had amazing ability, and grew stronger directly to his (obviously unlimited) determination, haha.

But that's just my fanboy rant :p
